Help! Our Relatives Think We’re Building a House for Their Son and Our Daughter!

Hey everyone,

I need some advice on a pretty awkward situation. So, my husband James and I have been working on building a new house. It’s been a huge project, and we’re super excited about it. But here’s the kicker: our relatives, specifically James’s cousin Jack and his wife Ella, seem to think that we’re building this house for our daughter Eliana to live in with their son Michael.

Like, what?! 😳

We never had any such plans, and honestly, the idea never even crossed our minds. Eliana is only 16 and still in high school, and Michael is 18 and just started college. We were just building this house for our family, not for some future in-law arrangement!

Jack and Ella have been dropping hints and making comments about how “perfect” the house will be for Eliana and Michael. They even asked if they could help with some of the design choices, which I thought was just them being nice. But now, it’s clear they have some other ideas in mind.

I’m really not sure how to handle this. I don’t want to hurt their feelings or cause any family drama, but I also don’t want them to keep thinking this is some kind of arranged future for our kids. How do I gently but firmly let them know that this house is just for us and not for some future couple’s nest?

Any advice would be super appreciated! Thanks in advance, guys!
