Help! My Son’s Future Father-in-Law Was Drunk When We Met Him

Hey everyone,

I really need some advice here. So, my son Brian is getting married soon, and we finally got the chance to meet his future in-laws. Everything was supposed to be perfect, but things took a weird turn. When we arrived, Brian’s future father-in-law, Ralph, was already pretty drunk. It was super awkward, and I didn’t know how to react.

I mean, what do you even do in that situation? Do you just ignore it and pretend everything is fine? Or do you address it somehow? I don’t want to make things uncomfortable for Brian or his fiancée, Naomi, but I also don’t want to just sweep it under the rug.

To make matters worse, Ralph started making some inappropriate jokes and comments. It was clear that he was way past the point of being just “a little tipsy.” My husband William and I were both pretty shocked, and we didn’t know how to handle it without causing a scene.

Claire, Naomi’s mom, seemed embarrassed but didn’t really do anything to stop him. I feel like this could be a red flag, but I don’t want to jump to conclusions. Ariana, Brian’s sister, thinks we should talk to Brian about it and see how he feels. But I’m worried that might just stress him out more.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation? How did you handle it? Should we talk to Brian and Naomi about it, or just let it go and hope it was a one-time thing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
