Help! My Son Always Sides with His Wife Over Me

Hey everyone,

I really need some advice and support right now. I’m feeling so lost and hurt. My son, Philip, has been married to Gabriella for about a year now. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a lovely person, but it feels like every time there’s a disagreement or a difference of opinion, Philip always takes her side.

At first, I was in shock when Philip brought Gabriella home as his fiancée. I guess I was just surprised because he hadn’t mentioned her much before, and suddenly they were engaged. I tried my best to welcome her into the family, but it seems like no matter what I do, I’m always the odd one out.

For example, last weekend we had a family dinner, and there was a small argument about holiday plans. I suggested we all go to the mountains like we used to, but Gabriella wanted to visit her family instead. Before I could even finish my sentence, Philip jumped in and said we should do what Gabriella wants. It felt like a slap in the face.

I understand that he loves his wife and wants to support her, but it feels like he’s completely forgotten about me and our family traditions. It’s like my opinions don’t matter anymore. I’m not trying to cause trouble or come between them, but I miss the close relationship I had with my son.

Has anyone else been through something similar? How do you handle it when your child always sides with their spouse? Should I talk to Philip about how I’m feeling, or would that just make things worse? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
