Seeking Advice: Son Wants to Register His Wife in Gifted Apartment – Should She Pay Half the Rent?

Hey everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well. I’m reaching out because I’m facing a challenging situation and could really use some advice.

My son, Kyle, recently got married to a wonderful woman named Naomi. As a wedding gift, Kyle received an apartment. Now, Kyle wants to register Naomi in the apartment, which I understand is a natural step for a married couple. However, I believe that if Naomi is going to be registered in the apartment, she should contribute to half the rent.

I know this might sound a bit harsh, but I think it’s only fair that both parties share the financial responsibilities equally. On the other hand, I don’t want to create any tension or misunderstandings between Kyle and Naomi, or between us as a family.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you handle it? Do you think it’s reasonable to ask Naomi to pay half the rent, or should I approach this differently? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best,

Roger
