Help! My Mother-in-Law is Furious Over Fridge Shelves

Hey everyone,

I really need some advice on a situation that’s gotten way out of hand. So, here’s the deal: I recently moved in with my husband Joe and his mom, Monika. Everything was going pretty smoothly until I suggested we divide the shelves in the fridge. I thought it would make things easier and more organized, especially since we all have different food preferences and dietary needs.

But oh boy, was I wrong! Monika got super mad and said it was a ridiculous idea. She even mentioned that when she lived in a dorm, they never divided fridge shelves. Now, she’s giving me the cold shoulder (pun intended) and it’s making things really awkward at home.

I talked to Joe about it, and he thinks I should just let it go and not bring it up again. But honestly, I feel like this is a reasonable request and it’s not fair for me to just back down. I mean, it’s not like I’m asking for something outrageous, right?

I’ve tried talking to Monika again, but she just shuts me down and says it’s her house and her rules. I get that, but I’m living here too and I think we should all be comfortable.

So, what do you guys think? Should I just drop it and try to keep the peace, or should I stand my ground and push for a more organized fridge? Any tips on how to approach this without causing more drama would be super helpful!

Thanks in advance!
