Finding Myself Through Faith: A Journey from Servitude to Self-Discovery
Hey there, I’m Camila. For most of my life, I felt like I was just a servant to my own kids. Don’t get me wrong, I love Alexander, Vincent, and Riley more than anything in the world, but somewhere along the way, I lost myself. It wasn’t until I turned 48 that I realized life could be different.
I remember the day vividly. It was a rainy Tuesday, and I was sitting alone in the kitchen after everyone had left for the day. The house was eerily quiet, and for the first time in years, I had a moment to myself. I felt this overwhelming sense of emptiness. I had spent so many years catering to my kids’ needs that I had forgotten who I was outside of being their mom.
I decided to pray. Now, I’m not someone who prays often, but that day, I felt like I had no other choice. I asked God for guidance, for a sign, for anything that could help me find myself again. And you know what? He listened.
The next day, I bumped into an old friend, George, at the grocery store. We hadn’t seen each other in years, but it felt like no time had passed at all. We got to talking, and he mentioned a local community center that offered various classes and activities. He suggested I check it out.
I was hesitant at first, but something inside me—maybe it was God—pushed me to go. I signed up for a painting class, something I had always wanted to try but never had the time for. That first class was like a breath of fresh air. For the first time in years, I felt alive.
I started attending more classes and even joined a book club. I met amazing people like Piper and Riley, who became my close friends and confidants. Through these activities, I rediscovered my passions and interests. I felt like a whole new person.
Prayer became a regular part of my routine. Every morning, I’d spend a few minutes talking to God, thanking Him for guiding me and asking for continued strength and wisdom. It wasn’t always easy; there were days when I felt like giving up, but my faith kept me going.
Looking back, I realize that God had been with me all along, even when I didn’t see it. He gave me the strength to be there for my kids when they needed me most and then helped me find myself when the time was right.
So if you ever find yourself feeling lost or empty, don’t be afraid to reach out to God. Sometimes, all it takes is a little faith and a simple prayer to turn your life around.
