Help! My Son Wants to Register His Wife in His Gifted Apartment

Hey everyone,

I really need some advice on a tricky situation I’m dealing with. My son, Henry, recently got married to a wonderful woman named Gianna. As a wedding gift, he received an apartment from his grandparents. Now, Henry wants to register Gianna in the apartment, but I’m feeling a bit uneasy about it.

Here’s the thing: I think it’s totally fine for Gianna to live there, but I believe she should contribute to the rent. I mean, it’s only fair, right? Henry and Gianna are both working, so splitting the rent shouldn’t be a big deal. But Henry thinks that since the apartment was a gift, Gianna shouldn’t have to pay anything.

I’m worried that if Gianna doesn’t contribute, it might create some tension down the line. I don’t want Henry to feel like he’s shouldering all the financial responsibility alone. Plus, I think it’s important for both partners to share the costs of living together.

What do you all think? Am I being unreasonable here? Should I just let them handle it on their own? Or should I insist that Gianna pays her share of the rent? Any advice or similar experiences would be super helpful!

Thanks a bunch,

Ella
