Help! My Mother-in-Law is Playing Favorites with the Grandkids
Hey everyone,
I really need some advice and maybe a bit of a vent session. So, here’s the deal: my mother-in-law, Claire, has always claimed she doesn’t have the energy to help out with our kid, Joshua. I totally get it, she’s not young anymore, and taking care of a toddler can be exhausting. But here’s the kicker – Claire’s daughter, Chloe, just had a baby, and suddenly Claire has all the energy in the world to help out with her new grandchild.
I’m feeling really hurt and confused. It’s like she didn’t even try with Joshua, but now she’s bending over backward for Chloe’s baby. I don’t want to sound petty or jealous, but it’s hard not to feel like our kid is being treated unfairly. Joshua adores his grandma, and it breaks my heart to see him getting less attention.
I’ve tried talking to my partner, Gabriel, about it, but he thinks I’m overreacting and that Claire is just excited about the new baby. Maybe he’s right, but it still stings. I don’t want to cause any family drama, but I also don’t want Joshua to feel left out.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation? How did you handle it? Should I talk to Claire directly or just let it go? Any advice would be super appreciated!
Thanks,
Aaliyah
