Seeking Advice: My Son Wants to Move to a Summer Cottage
Hello everyone,
I hope you’re all doing well. I’m reaching out because I’m in a bit of a dilemma and could really use some advice from this wonderful community.
My beloved son, Michael, recently approached me with a request that has left me quite unsettled. He asked if we could move to a summer cottage. While I understand that he might be looking for a change of scenery or perhaps a simpler lifestyle, I am absolutely against the idea. I have my reasons, including concerns about isolation, the practicality of living in a summer cottage year-round, and the emotional attachment I have to our current home.
In an attempt to find a middle ground, I offered Michael financial assistance instead. I thought this might help him achieve whatever goals he has in mind without uprooting our lives. However, he seemed quite disappointed with my response, and now I’m worried that I might have hurt his feelings or that I’m not fully understanding his perspective.
Has anyone else faced a similar situation? How did you handle it? Should I reconsider my stance, or is there another way to support Michael without moving to the summer cottage? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Best regards,
Zoey
