Seeking Advice: Our Daughter Has Changed Beyond Recognition

Dear Society Members,

I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Caroline, and I am writing to you in a state of distress and confusion, seeking your wisdom and any advice you might offer.

Our daughter, Lily, has always been a vibrant and independent spirit. However, since her marriage to Nathan, we’ve noticed alarming changes in her behavior and personality. It seems Nathan has completely overshadowed her independence, and she has become almost unrecognizable to us.

The most painful part came recently during a significant family event. We celebrated my husband Mark’s 60th birthday, a milestone jubilee that meant a lot to him. It was supposed to be a joyous family gathering, but Lily did not attend. Her absence was deeply felt, especially by Mark, and it left us all heartbroken. When we reached out to understand her reasons, the explanations were vague, and it seemed as though Nathan was speaking on her behalf.

This situation has left us puzzled and deeply concerned about Lily’s well-being and the nature of her relationship with Nathan. We miss our daughter and fear that she might be losing her sense of self and autonomy.

How should we approach this delicate situation? Is there a way to communicate our concerns without pushing her further away? Any insights or similar experiences shared would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I look forward to any guidance you can provide.

Warm regards,

Caroline
